Elves
Elves have a long relationship with the arcane mysteries of Illyriad, and as such make the best magic users of all the races. Elven mages are capable of surpassing the very finest mages of any other race, in all the areas that count – spell strength, spell duration, range, lowered casting time and increased mana generation. When the moon is full in the sky in the middle of winter it is a foolish man who doubts that an Elven spell can reach out across the world and touch him.
Elves are one of Illyriad’s more difficult races to play well. Although they tend to make excellent archers and swift riders, it can take valuable time to get an Elven city to a necessary level of magical proficiency, and it takes skill to co-ordinate your empire’s operations around the various waxing and waning cycles of the moon. Elven Diplomatic UnitsDark Elf Many an Elven ruler isn't above using their nefarious cousins, the Dark Elves, to steal items of particular value from their enemies. Dark Elves are especially proficient at such tasks and rarely leave a trace...
Dark Elf Saboteur An Elven Lord who is in dire need of reducing an enemy town's strength often turns to his Dark cousins. Dark Elf Saboteurs relish plying their expertise in late night arson.
Elven Pruner Elves with a destructive bent are often sent to cut down enemy buildings. These Elven “Pruners” make sure the opposition's buildings do not grow healthily.
Farseer Elven Farseers are a specified type of wood mage who use forest pools to scry out the capabilities of enemy cities.
High Elf Envoy Rarely do courts get graced with High Elf Envoys. When they do, it is certain there are strong Elvish interests at work, and rarely do they come home with the job unfinished.
Night Shade In the forest no plant is more lethal than the Deadly Nightshade. The Elven master killers are thus named. Armed with a vast expertise in natural poisons, these Elves are infamous for sending rivals to “natural deaths”, unbeknownst to nature.
Outrider Those Trackers who show special aptitude for being at one with the woods are mentored and after many years of practice have the opportunity to take the exalted title of Outrider.
Rogue Most Elves abhor theft. "Most", that is. Those Rogues who stray from the path are often used to procure items of interest from Elven enemies.
Tracker Scouting comes naturally to Elves. Young elves often break their teeth as Trackers and it is rare that strangers travel more than a league into Elven lands without a Tracker taking notice.
Waysman Young Elves often roam around the World “finding their way”. If some of them report back enemy cities' capabilities, it can't hurt an Elven Lords' planning session, can it?
Willowblade Named after their long and thin daggers, the Elves use Willowblades to eliminate rival generals.
Elven Military UnitsElven Trueshot Many times, Orcish intruders in Elf-held forests die without ever seeing their enemy. Elven Trueshots are the most accomplished bowmen in the World, often killing with perfectly placed headshots from hundreds of yards away - even in forests.
Mangonel Mangonels use a massive, tension bow to propel heavy rocks from a bowl-shaped bucket at the end of the Siege Engine's arm. Its unpredictable (yet powerful) strikes are best suited to hitting broad, non-moving targets such as buildings.
Marshal Marshals with their gleaming Elven chainmail are drawn from the ranks of the Elven nobility and should not be trifled with on the battlefield.
Phalanx Woe be to those attacking the mighty elven phalanxes with their sarissas. Their ability to keep their cities safe is legendary.
Protector Upon rights of manhood, each Elven lad aspires to defend his nation. Many join the Protectors who are seen in most Elven cities, keeping them safe.
Sentinel Elves get their first bows in early childhood and practice their archery practically from the cradle. As a result, Sentinels are the Elvish first line of defense against any enemies.
Siege Hook Siege Hooks are heavy iron bolts flung from a tension-projectile Siege Engine over the top of the defender's walls. Attached to the hook are incredibly sturdy, cured ropes. Once the Hook has passed over the wall and is embedded in the forifications the attackers use horses to heave on the ropes, to collapse the walls from within.
Swiftsteed Virtually nothing is faster than an Elven Swiftsteed unit. They'll appear behind enemy lines, kill your rearguard, and be gone before you know it.
Wardancer Watching Wardancers in battle resembles a blur of motion as these elegant heavy infantry carve their foes up with longswords tirelessly.
Warden Armed with their agile thinswords, Wardens are the core footsoldiers of any Elven army.
Elven Support UnitsCaravan Caravans are the building block of your trade empire. Caravans carry goods from place to place as you direct.
Messenger Messengers are the fastest mounted units in the land, carrying messages containing new orders to your units scattered about the land. They ride their horses almost to destruction, abandoning them en route and switching to fresher ones.
