Slay five squirrels...Quest systems in many games have long been a source of frustration for us. The objectives are often tediously repetitive and lack originality.Whilst we can't guarantee not to have some "Deliver X to Y" quests, we've built a quest system based on a progression of ability, with quest risk/reward tailored to what you can actually complete at your current level of ability. Simple, Multi-part and Cooperative questsThe quests themselves are both stand-alone and multi-part, and some are alliance-level quests that can only be completed by simultaneous interaction from more than one player. We've built the quests from the ground up, using the 'openness' of the game as the starting point. If the game mechanics only allow you to trade or fight, then there's little point to a quest system. If, however, the game has as many ways of interacting with the world as Illyriad does, then the quest system can be richer and more detailed, with multiple ways of achieving the objective. Future Quests...We're also considering the possibility of opening the quest editor system to the playerbase as a whole - to allow players themselves to make their own quests for other players to compete to complete. As an example, (weak) player A could offer a quest for the (stronger) player B to sabotage player C's current building queue in return for a reward of some resource type. Please note that this will not be in place for launch - as you might imagine there are many potential pitfalls we need to carefully iron out before releasing this! |
