Knowledge is powerResearch is a critical part of the game to master. However, you are unlikely to want to research every single technology in every single city in your empire – you will probably wish to concentrate each city’s research into the areas that will most benefit that particular city.To research a technology you need Research Points which are accumulated by academics in your library - or buy buying or trading books with other players. Each technology that has been researched in a city is specific to that city and cannot be transferred to other locations or players. You choose to exchange your accumulated Research points for a specific technology that you want your city to have. Each technology you choose to research will cost a certain number of points, and take a specified amount of time – however, each level of Library will reduce the amount of time a particular research project takes. Research ProgressionThe progression of research technologies is known as the “Technology Tree”. For example, you cannot research the Carpentry skill until you have completed researching the Craftsmanship skill. As another example, you cannot research the Diplomatic skill “Spying” until you have completed researching the Diplomatic skill “Finesse” and upgraded a Consulate to level 10 in your city.Once a research project is completed the technology is immediately available to be used in your city.
